                            Dr. Amy Joy, OMD

                            Picture
Amy Joy became interested in Oriental Medicine after obtaining her BA in psychology from the University of Iowa in 2003.  She enrolled at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2004 and completed her education at Southwest Acupuncture College in 2009, receiving the Golden Flower Chinese Herbs Scholarship, an award for excellence in Chinese herbal studies.  Amy is a fully certified Doctor of Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM, New Mexico).

As a post-grad, Amy spent one year as a traditional "uchi-deshi", a Japanese term for a student or apprentice who trains under and assists a senior practitioner on a full-time basis.  In such programs, apprentices undergo an intense schedule, serving the teacher all day, every day.  Amy assisted Koei Kuwahara, a 30 year senior acupuncture practitioner from Japan, who has been based in Boston for the last 20 years, specializing in Hari-style Japanese treatments for children and adults.  During her apprenticeship, she assisted with Kuwahara's teaching responsibilities, treatments, and helped run the office.

Amy takes great joy in working with children, using a needle-free type of treatment called shoni-shin.  Additionally, she has studied the use of Essential Oils for over seven years.
